The vineyards sit among ancient, long-dormant volcanoes, and the volcanic soils here are said to give these wines a pretty distinctive edge. Odette and Gilles Miolanne planted their first vines in 1994 — mostly Pinot Noir with a little Gamay — and farm about 17 hectares at the southern end of the appellation. \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eTech info on this wine is… surprisingly hard to come by, and we haven’t opened our bottle yet (restraint! growth!), but the early word is spicy red fruit, freshness, and a little herby lift.
