Concinnitas 'Camino' Mencía Blend

As you may have figured out by now (but we're always happy to say it again), we adore the people behind Concinnitas. If you want to learn more about the project, you can check out their story here. 'Camino' was born from the first harvest of two Iberian varieties grown on Nate and Zulima's farm. Bree and Chad have long been champions of Mencía in the Willamette Valley (Chad even taught a class on it for us!), so it was always destined to be part of the project. If you're not familiar, Mencía is a red variety from northwest Spain that drinks somewhere between Pinot Noir and Syrah. It's common there to co-ferment it with white grapes for extra lift and freshness, and here the team chose the fellow Iberian variety Godello. Godello always reminds me [Chris] a bit of Chablis, so naturally I'm a fan. Its stony minerality, taut acidity, and ripe orchard fruit brighten the savory character of the Mencía. We love that these varieties are becoming something special here in the PNW!

We love it with… Anything that tends to be a little gamey—think wild boar sausages, roasted duck, quail, or venison medallions. It's also fantastic with Spanish chorizo and tortilla española.

Vinification: 2024 was the first harvest of both of Godello and Mencía at Concinnitas. The varieties were harvested and fermented together, as is customary in parts of NW Spain. Certified organic. Dry farmed. Focused on incorporating biodiversity and regenerative practices. Neutral oak, minimal SO2. Never fined or filtered.

For the nerds: Winemaker Bree Stock is a self-proclaimed 'ambassador of Mencía,' and sees it as a potential variety for the future of Willamette Valley. She also holds a special place in her heart for Spanish examples such as Descendientes de J. Palacios' 'Pétalos' and Guímaro's 'Camiño Real' which we also carry!
