Think just ripe opal apple and a hint of this lemon zest with some lanolin/wooly qualities. A bit more rounded and weighty than some of the Chenins we have in the shop (like the Lambert wines from Loire), this is the perfect spring porch wine.
We love it with… Sushi, summer succotash, grilled Caesar salad
Type: White
Vintage: 2024
Size: 750mL
ABV: 12.3%
Grape: Chenin Blanc
Region: Elkton, Umpqua Valley, Oregon, United States
Vinification: From Tuckaway Vineyard, farmed biodynamically in the Elkton Oregon AVA - the northernmost region of the Umpqua Valley, about 33 miles inland from the Pacific. The Umpqua River runs through the appellation, bringing cooling afternoon breezes, while daily fog (often lingering until midday) and higher annual rainfall (~50 inches) create a cooler, milder, and longer growing season than the rest of the valley. Slow, extended ripening, with Chenin often among the last grapes picked — sometimes as late as late October the consistent wind and fog influence lead to small, concentrated berries with thick skins, rich pulp, and bright acidity. Fruit is pressed into neutral barrels, undergoing full malolactic fermentation and aging on 100% lees for the entirety of fermentation and élevage (about 10 months).
