Cellier Saint-Benoit
Benjamin Benoit is a newcomer to the Jura wine scene who is making quite the splash. Just over 30, he is young but passionate - one of those people who goes all-in on the things they do and whose dedication shows in the precision and brilliance of their work. Ploussard is a lighter red grape, so think ethereal red fruit, fresh-cut flowers, and a really clean, mineral backbone. This is drinking beautifully now, but has the structure and balance to age well if you want to cellar it for a few years. If you’re exploring Jura or just looking for a lighter, chillable red, this is definitely one to snag before it disappears.
We love it with… Comté, roasted beet salad with walnuts, salmon
Type: Red
Vintage: 2023
Size: 750mL
Grape: Ploussard
Region: Arbois-Pupillin, Jura, France
Vinification: Farmed sustainably, some organic practices. De-stemmed with a crible, 2-week ambient yeast fermentation in wooden tank, daily pump-overs, pressed with a vertical press, aged for 6 months in tank, no fining or filtration, SO2 added after malolactic fermentation and before bottling.
For the nerds: Planted in 1987, this fruit comes from the most recognized terroir in Pupillin, moderate slope (26% average incline), south-facing, 390 m elevation; located in what was once a stone quarry, shallow and rocky soil with iris-colored Triassic marls.
